2D Mouse
The 2D Mouse is
part of
the Intuos2 A5 and A6
tablets. It has three buttons, a scroll wheel and an ergonomic shape. It can move in two dimensions over
the tablet. Intuos 3
tablets have a similar mouse.
Absolute ...... only relative positioning: Moving
the mouse in a certain direction will move
the cursor on
the screen in
the same direction, but
there's no relation b
etween
the position of
the mouse on your desk and
the position of
the cursor on
the screen. WACOM
tablets operate with absolute positioning:
The entire active area of your
tablet represents
the entire screen. Place
the pen in
the lower left-hand corner of your
tablet and
the cursor will move to
the lower left-hand corner of your screen.
Active Area
The Active Area is
the drawing area of
the tablet where your pens, mice and cursors are d
etected.
For example, if you have an Intuos3 A4
tablet,
the active area is A4 size.
For Graphire4 the active area is A6 or A5.
Application-specific s
ettings
WACOM tools and
tablet s
ettings that have been customised
for individual applications.
The control panel of Intuos3
tablets, and
the Cintiq 21 UX, enables you to program a tool to behave uniquely in different applications. Your application-specific s
ettings are in effect whenever you use
the application, because
the driver d
etects
the active application automatically.
Aspect
The aspect defines
the ratio b
etween
the vertical and horizontal dimension of
the tablet or display.
The aspect s
etting defines how
the tablet area is mapped to
the display area. This s
etting d
etermines if
the aspect of
the tablet and display are
the same. It is preferred, in most circumstances, that when a circle is drawn on
the tablet,
then it also appears as a circle on
the display, and not as an ellipse. With
the aspect s
etting you can make sure this is
the case. You can use a WACOM
tablet with wide screens and with two screens.
Biom
etric Signature Verification
Each of us has our own handwriting style. Biom
etric signature verification software can be used to accurately identify
the user. This makes it possible to control access, or,
for example, check
the validity of electronic documents and transactions. By using a pressure-sensitive WACOM
tablet and
the appropriate software, both an exact (static) image of
the signature as well as
the signature’s biom
etric (dynamic) characteristics can be captured.
The writing speed, acceleration and pressure are all analyzed as
the user writes. Because of this richness of
the data, a very reliable identification can be obtained.
Blu
etooth
Blu
etooth is a telecommunications industry ...... a short-range wireless connection. Blu
etooth requires that a low-cost transceiver chip be included in each device.
The transceiver transmits and receives ...... different countries). WACOM uses Blu
etooth to connect wireless
tablets to computers.
Each device has a unique 48-bit address from
the IEEE 802 standard. Connections can be point-to-point or multipoint.
The maximum range is 10 m
etres. Data can be exchanged at a rate of 1 megabit per second (up to 2 Mbps in
the second generation of
the technology). A frequency hop scheme allows devices to communicate even in areas with a great deal of electromagn
etic interference. Built-in encryption and verification is provided.
The technology got its unusual name in honour of Harald Blu
etooth, king of Denmark in
the mid-tenth century.
Click
Force
The force you must apply to
the tablet, with
the WACOM Pens or Airbrush tip,
for a mouse-click to occur. This
force is registered by
the pen and transmitted, via radio waves, to
the tablet.
The tablet itself is
there
fore not sensitive to pressure.
Cord-/Batteryless
All WACOM input devices have nei
ther batteries nor cables.
The tablet itself supplies
the input device with
the necessary power by electro-magn
etic induction.
DVI Video Port
DVI stands
for 'Digital Visual Interface', a digital video connection that provides a high-speed digital connection b
etween a computer and its display device like
the Cintiq
for optimal data transmission at highest possible output quality.
Document Annotation
With
the help of document annotation software, a WACOM
tablet can be used to add notes, comments and even free-hand drawings to MS-Office documents and presentations. Thanks to
the pen, users can write and draw as if
they were working on a normal she
et of paper.
Double-click assist
This option in
the control panel makes it easier to double-click with
the pen tip. When selected, you can customise
the double-click speed and distance.
DualTrack
Dual Track enables you to use two input devices simultaneously on
the same table - no matter if you're using two pens at
the same time or a pen and mouse. Depending on
the software application this feature opens a wealth of new opportunities;
for instance, use
the 4D Mouse
for zooming and rotating objects and
the Pen
for drawing - all at
the same time.
Electronic Handwriting Recognition
Using
the appropriate software, electronic handwriting ...... and words and transfers
them into
the currently opened application. A pressure-sensitive graphics
tablet serves as
the input device.
Eraser
Most WACOM input devices have an eraser on
the opposite end from
the pen-tip. Depending on
the s
etting in
the WACOM Control Panel and
the application, you can erase in
the same way as you would with an eraser on a pencil - and
the WACOM eraser is even pressure sensitive. Different applications take advantage of
the eraser in different ways, depending on
the application’s capabilities.
ExpressKeys & Touchstrip
In order to increase your efficiency,
the Cintiq and Intuos feature
the ExpressKeys and Touch Strips which allows you to reduce keyboard usage and to concentrate on
the Cintiq and Intuos as your main working tool.
The ExpressKeys have
the most important menu commands already pres
et, but are freely programmable by yourself.
The Touch Strip is perfect ...... a long story short:
The interaction b
etween pens, ExpressKeys and Touch ...... efficiency and productivity.
Fingerwheel
This is
the control wheel on
the barrel of
the Intuos Airbrush. You can control an extra param
eter of your software with this wheel. As opposed to a real airbrush valve,
the finger wheel doesn't r
eturn to zero on release but remains at
the last position thus ensuring that
the release of digital ink is kept constant.
Gesture Recognition
In
the fields of pen computing and handwriting recognition,
the term gesture is used to describe a user’s handwritten entries. This means that
particular commands can be activated by a simple movement of
the pen. And this makes it very easy to per
form tasks such as navigating on
the desktop, scrolling, del
eting, operating browser features or using Copy and Paste.
Lens Cursor
The Lens Cursor is an input device with programmable buttons and a cross-hair lens
for entering precise coordinate position in
formation.
Menu Strip
The strip at
the upper edge of
the active area of Intuos2
tablets contains 'soft' buttons that are pres
et with a selection of often-used commands.
These 'soft' buttons can be re-programmed to fit your personal needs.
The tablet sizes A5 and larger even allow you to replace
the actual strip with your own printed one
for total customisation.
Nib
The replaceable tip of a WACOM Pen or Airbrush.
Pen Pressure
A feature of
the WACOM Pens and
their erasers that senses
the amount of pressure being ...... many ways, depending on
the application’s capabilities.
Pen Stand
This is a small block with a hole in
the top in which
the pen can be placed almost vertically. If you use this pen stand you can more easily switch b
etween using a keyboad and using a
tablet, because you don't have to look
for the pen; you know where it is.
Penabled
Look
for the Penabled logo to ensure you’re g
etting
the natural feel and superior per
formance of WACOM’s patented cordless and battery-free pen technology.
QuickPoint
The Quick Point Mode divides
the tablet into two independent areas: a large area
for accurate drawing and a small area
for quick navigation. This feature is especially useful
for large
tablet sizes because, with a single big area, even
the simplest navigation action could results in full arm motion. With
the smaller QuickPoint area you can navigate with just a small wrist movement.
Scroll wheel
The scroll wheel is a control on
the top of a WACOM mouse. It has
the same function as a scroll wheel on a normal mouse.
The user of a WACOM mouse can fully customise
the speed of
the scroll wheel. This means that
the speed can be adjusted to alternative s
ettings in different applications.
Thumbwheel
The wheel on
the side of
the Intuos 4D Mouse gives you an additional control variable
for your work. You can customise
the functions and sensitivity of
the thumbwheel in
the control panel,
for instance you can use it
for zooming in and out.
Tilt
A feature of
the Intuos Pen and Airbrush tip and eraser that senses
the angle of tilt b
etween
the tool and
tablet. This is used to ...... This special feature allows
for individual programming of really ...... unique electronic identification number,
the Tool-ID. This allows one ...... each user can customise
their own tools as
they prefer without interfering with anyone else's s
ettings. And in applications that support
the Tool-ID,
the software will recognise what type of device is being used, say whe
ther it's a pen or an airbrush, and will automatically s
et itself accordingly.
Transparent Overlay
Originals - which need to be traced or 'digitised' with your WACOM
tablet - can be held in place with
the Transparent Overlay. This plastic overlay has a slightly roughened surface so that it comes closer to
the feel of real paper.
USB ...... a single computer. USB
tablets do not need a separate power adapter,
they g
et their power from
the USB built-in power supply (powered USB port). ....

20: Intuos3 Art Marker
With
the Art Marker (6D Pen), designers can go back in time and g
et the good old marker pen experience - with all
the advantages of
the digital realm. This pen has, like its traditional counter
part, a broad, angled pen-tip, which is made of ei
ther plastic or real felt. Additionally,
the Art Marker is rotation-sensitive, so you can, if
the software supports rotation-sensitivity, change
the width of your stroke by simply turning
the pen-barrel - just as ...... Maker as a calligraphic fountain-pen.
Rotation-sensitive
The Art Marker can be rotated up to 360° along its longitudinal axis, while
the tablet can read
the degree of rotation precisely and continuously. To make full use of
the Art Marker, you must use software that supports rotation-sensitivity. Currently,
the packages that do this ...... IX. Older versions of
these packages do not support
the Art Marker fully and ...... tip
With 1,024 pressure levels,
the Intuos3 Art Marker tip responds in
the most sensitive way to your own m
ethod of drawing, writing, painting, dragging and clicking. Reduced activation pressure at
the tip ensures ergonomic and relaxing work and increased sensitivity means you can create vign
ettes on screen without level transition.
Tilt sensitive
The Intuos3 Art Marker recognises tilt angles of up to 60° - important
for realistic paintbrush simulation,
for example.
Tool ID
Customise your pens: ...... individually programmed and configured
for each application. And
these functions can be automatically activated, when
the application is started.....
